Description
Micron/watercolor representation of the XPY-1 Admiral flying boat of 1929. The Admiral was created to meet a Navy requirement to fly from the continental US to Panama, Hawaii, or Alaska nonstop. Consolidated lost the production contract to Martin, which built the type as the XP2M and P3M, but the originating company used the core design as the basis for the commercial Commodore, and the experience helped set the company up for several decades of flying boat development.
